How is the unit delivered?

Training is delivered via blended (with face-to-face and distance components).

Unit Duration: This unit is designed to be completed within up to 3 days.

Expected Study Hours: Typical learners are expected to spend up to 16 hours depending on existing knowledge, skills, and experience.

What will you learn in the TLIC3004?

This unit is designed to develop your expertise in driving a heavy rigid vehicle safely. Among others, you will learn to:

    • Drive a heavy rigid vehicle
    • Monitor traffic and road conditions
    • Monitor and maintain vehicle performance

 


How is the unit structured?

All learners will be assessed through a combination of the following assessments methods:

    • Face to face training delivery
    • Trainer demonstration + Return demonstration
    • Self-paced learning
    • Scenario-based assessments
    • Practical skills demonstration assessments
    • Questioning – Written or Verbal

 


What are the entry requirements?

At the time of enrolment, the student must:

    • Be 18 years old and above
    • Have a valid Class C licence for at least two (2) years OR a Class LR or MR licence for at least one (1) year
    • Have a Unique Student Identifier (USI)
    • Have at least Year 10 English proficiency level or equivalent

Pre-requisites:

At the start of the training session, the student must have a zero (0.00) breath/blood alcohol concentration (BAC).

The student must:

    • Complete the driver licence application/renewal form (F3000) from the Department of Transport and Main Roads
    • Show their evidence of identity documents
    • Pass an eyesight test, if required
    • Declare they are medically fit to drive

If a student has a medical condition that may adversely affect their ability to drive safely, they must present to the Department of Transport and Main Roads a Medical Certificate for Motor Vehicle Driver (form F3712) completed by a doctor. The doctor must recommend on their Medical Certificate for Motor Vehicle Driver (form 3712) that they are either:

    • Fit to drive with no conditions

OR

    • Fit to drive with stated conditions (for example only driving during daylight or in a vehicle with an automatic transmission)

If a student is 75 years old or older, they must have evidence that they are medically fit to drive by having a current medical certificate (form F3712 as mentioned above) completed by a doctor recommending that they are physically fit to drive in accordance with any stated conditions. Medical certificates issued to drivers 75 or older are only valid for a maximum period of 13 months from the date of issue.

If the student is unsure about any existing medical condition they may have, they must first consult a doctor about any potential impact on their ability to drive safely.

 


What are the resources needed to complete the unit?

To support you in your new unit with Eagle Training Academy, we will provide the following:

  • Training facility resources include:
      • Data projector
      • Whiteboard
      • Seats
      • Desks
  • Learning resources:
      • Learner guide
      • Assessment workbook
  • At least one (1) heavy rigid vehicle that:
      • Has at least three (3) axles
      • Has a gross vehicle mass (GVM) greater than eight (8) tonnes
      • Examples: heavy rigid bus, heavy rigid truck, articulated bus
  • Designated driving area

 

  • To complete your unit, you will need ongoing access to the following:
      • Computer/laptop with relevant software such as, but not limited to, the following:
        • Internet access preferably through Google Chrome
        • MS Word
        • Adobe Acrobat Reader
      • Personal protective equipment (PPE) including:
        • Long sleeves shirt
        • Long pants
        • Steel cap boots or closed shoes with good soles
